Shopping our Stash #216 - Splish, Splash!

...I was takin' a bath... (you're welcome, you know you were thinking it!)

This week at Shopping our Stash we want you to play with wet media -  watercolor, acrylic paint, distress inks - I'm already addicted to watercolouring with my distress inks. I wanted to try something a little different but at first it wasn't working, so I made a 'normal' watercoloured card. FINALLY I got my mojo in gear and managed my original idea. I used Distress Stains (in five colours lol) and liberally applied them over a stencil, moving the stencil around.

Since the stains are very watery, they bled underneath the stencil - which was the look I was going for - and I ended up with this!

Supplies: chipboard butterfly mermaid from (I think) Prima; doily; sentiment from Reverse Confetti; Chipped Sapphire distress ink; Distress Stains in Tea Dye, Chipped Sapphire, Tumbled Glass, Picket Fence, Antique Linen; Tim Holtz Bubbles stencil

And since I had this one all uploaded and everything I'll share it here:

Supplies: Flourishes daisies stamp; Reverse Confetti sentiment; Palette Noir ink; clear detail EP; distress inks for watercolouring, MME enamel dots; scrap of vellum

I didn't want the edges 'too' distressed, so I scraped them with my fingernail and then curled up two edges.

C'mon and get wet with us:

I added some extra stitching over what's indicated in the sketch because hey, it's a guideline!

Sisterhood of Snarky Stampers - I is for...

...Image only, no sentiment. The Snarky Sisters know this makes it harder to be snarky, and yet a few of us managed to be! (not me, lol - it's been extremely hot & humid here this week, about 40C with the humidex factor - and humidity in the 90s. All my snark is being used in real life)

Supplies: Penny Black stickers; Bo Bunny paper; Ranger white enamel; buttons from stash

I squeezed the enamel into a little plastic piece from packaging and used a toothpick to dab it on.

Ready to play? Get some more inspiration from the sisterhood:

Shopping our Stash #215 - Layer it On Me!

This week at Shopping our Stash we want to see your beautifully layered cards - the more the better! I took the opportunity to really play around:

Supplies: Dreamweaver crackle embossing paste; Distress inks for watercolouring; Prima leaves; Lil Inkers fringe flower die; Bo Bunny paper; Reverse Confetti stamps; random bits of embellies - stick pins, clothespin, doilies, seam binding

Sometimes it just all comes together - the clothespin was on my desk, and  then I thought hmmm, that could hold a sentiment! I guess it occasionally pays off to be a messy creator!

C'mon and get your layers on with us:

Tuesday Morning Sketches #314 - DRS Designs!

Good morning sketch fans! It's my week at sketcher for Tuesday Morning Sketches, and I think this one works well for those snippets of paper we all hoard! DRS Designs is our terrific sponsor this week - so many fun images to choose from. My stamps didn't arrive in time but I promise to make you giggle when they do!

Supplies: unknown baby feet stamp; Stampin Up sentiment; AC paper; Corner Chomper; Gathered Twigs, Tattered Rose, Worn Lipstick distress inks; buttons from stash; Tim Holtz design ruler & embroidery supplies

I didn't have quite the right shade of pink, so I inked up the stamp first with Worn Lipstick & then with Tattered Rose, and yay! it worked!

Here's the sketch:

This challenge will be open until next Sunday, August 23 - hop on over & see what the rest of the team has made!

Shopping our Stash #214 - Make a Spectacle of Yourself!

We've got another fun challenge for you this week at Shopping our Stash - spectacles! Either use some stuff from your stash featuring glasses (the spectacle kind) OR use the spotlight technique. I actually have quite a few things featuring glasses, and I stared at them for some time before coming up with a little tag card:

Supplies: Paper Smooches stamps; Memento Tuxedo Black ink; wood veneer glasses; black detail EP; classic small oval Nesties; button & twine from stash

I used a glue pen to cover the top of the wood veneer and embossed it with black detail EP, dipping it in the powder while still hot & reheating 4-5 times to get the nifty smooth shine. This is the first time these Paper Smooches stamps have seen ink too.

So how can you make a spectacle of yourself?

Tuesday Morning Sketches #313 - Bugaboo Stamps!

Happy Tuesday! We have a fun Tuesday Morning sketch and a great sponsor - surely you know how I love Bugaboo images! Once I'd coloured up this cutie I started thinking about which birthday sentiment to use, and the escaping balloon inspired what I went with:

Supplies: Mouse-Balloons digi stamp from Bugaboo;  Spectrum Noir markers; Mod Podge Dimensional Magic; Memento Tuxedo Black ink; classic small oval Nesties; Paper Smooches sentiments; Cuttlebug embossing folder; Tim Holtz design ruler & embroidery supplies

I glossed up the balloons and his widdle nose, and added some stitching here & there, and voila :)

Here's the sketch - love the unique triangle element!

This challenge will be open until next Sunday, August 16 - hop on over & see what the rest of the team has made!

Shake it Up Baby!

I've been making quite a few shaker cards lately - I used to use microbeads & confetti for the 'filler', and always found problems with static & just generally avoided them in the summer because of that. Enter sequins and suddenly WOOHOO I'm all over it. Also, these dip-dyed backgrounds ala Becca seem to really suit the fun of a shaker card. Since little red wagon is having a shaker card challenge this week I made sure (twist my arm) to make another one:

Supplies: various distress inks for background, Neat & Tangled sequins & sentiment; Memento Tuxedo Black ink; classic small circle Nesties

This one is fairly simple but with that fun splotchy background I didn't want it to be TOO busy.

Vellum Poppies

I am noticing that watercoloured cards are very popular with my customers, so this week I made a point of doing quite a few of them. Or, I should say - of starting them. I have tons of panels and maybe half of them made into actual ready cards. Ahem. Anyway, that was perfect for incorporating a couple of challenges this morning - the Just Us Girls challenge to use vellum, and the Stamplorations challenge to use stamps & watercolouring.

Supplies: Unknown poppy stamp; Reverse Confetti sentiment; Versamark & clear EP; Palette Noir ink; watercolour paper; smidge of vellum; Distress inks for watercolouring - ripe persimmon, festive berries, tumbled glass, broken china, peeled paint; Tim Holtz design ruler & embroidery supplies

This is one of those cards that just didn't quite know what it wanted to be - I was initially planning to wrap the vellum over the image, the background cardstock was going to be red, etc etc. The offset turquoise layer and the stitching ended up making me very happy. The poppy stamp was masked and stamped twice to create a longer panel. To get the coloured embossed sentiment, I inked first with Versamark & then with Festive Berries.

Stamplorations:

It's Hip to Be Square!

I've got two square cards to share with you today - when I make these super-embellished cards, I also make a little box for giving. No worries about squishing that way! The Paper Players are looking for square cards this week if you'd like to play along. Each card measures 5.25" square.

Supplies: Dreamweavers Crackle Embossing paste; Lil Inkers fringed flower die; Prima leaves; AC Thickers '40'; distress inks for watercolouring - dusty concord, seedless preserves, mowed lawn, broken china, peacock feathers; all other items from stash

I just coated a piece of paper with a layer of crackle paste using my fingers, and when it was dry watercoloured it. Super simple!

Supplies: blue flowers quilled by me; gem swirl & ribbon flower from Dollarama

The rhinestones & ribbon flower were a single-piece embellishment I got at the dollar store. A few snips and repositioning and it was perfect to pop up this card.

Krafty Inspiration

I knew right away what sentiment I wanted to use on my card for the Kraft Journal's CAS Inspirational challenge.  The trick was then deciding what else to include!

Supplies: light coloured kraft card stock; classic kraft ink from PTI; May Arts kraft twine; feather stamp from Clearly Besotted; sentiment stamp from Stampers Anonymous; chipboard feather from Dusty Attic (and inked with the kraft pad)

I was about to say that inspirational/just because I love you cards are some of my favourites to create....but let's be honest. I love making pretty much everything but the Dreaded Man Cards and sympathy cards :)

Jessi
